Last Sunday, August 29, was a powerful experience when a dozen or so women and men spoke psalms that God had put on their hearts to share with Garnett. Did you know that Psalms has about 100 phrases or words that describe God? Personal phrases like, “The God of my life,” and comforting ones like “A very present help in trouble” and confidence-giving ones like “Strong tower” and poetic and vivid phrases like, “a bird protecting her young.”

So this Sunday, September 5, please search the Psalms and bring one phrase that describes God. We’ll be doing something very unique and beautiful with these words as we pursue God as he is pursuing us.

Also, if you weren’t able to bring something last week and would like to bring donuts or muffins or fruit for Cafe Mosaic this Sunday, please bring those and give them to the Cafe greeters.

We’ll have extra time to enjoy coffee and fellowship before worship this Sunday because there will be no classes for all ages.

Because Lance has been a long-time part of the student ministry, we believe the ministry will continue strongly and also be infused with a vision that is consistent with this discipling vision of our entire church.

Lance is still our Community Minister but this “Director” role is focused on helping bring core team adults and students together in programs, activities, learning experiences. He will still have many other roles in the church as Community Minister, so we’re just making this distinction between a “Student Minister” and “Director” so the focus will be on helping set vision and work with lots of team members and students to make everything work well in student ministry.

Lance will be calling together the core team of 8-10 individuals or families to share responsibilities and roles, so be listening for that soon. Email Lance if you have questions.

At 7 pm we’ll start The Gathering, a once-a-month fellowship and worship experience with guest worship leaders or speakers. This Wednesday Chris King of CQ Missional will lead us in worship, and we’ll be treated to a end-of-summer wrap up slide show by Dee Johnson and Lance Newsom with contributions by students. We’ll see photos of children and student activities this summer.

Pool Party!
We will have an end of summer pool party THIS SUNDAY NIGHT, August 22nd, from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Taylor’s neighborhood pool. Bring $5 and a snack. Contact garnettinfo@gmail.com for more information and directions.

This Sunday we’ll worship, hear a continuing sermon series on “Talking Back to God: Psalms that praise God and minister to others.”

Wednesday August 18 at 4-7 pm  is Cafe Mosaic and 7-8 pm three adult small group Bible classes. We also have a fun outdoor water activity for the children and teens. See the children’s page for more information.

Come at 10 am for worship or come at 9 am and enjoy fellowship in the Cafe before worship, or join one of several in-depth Bible classes that meet at 9 am.

·       The fishermen among us are working hard to provide us with enough fish, but we are also asking families to bring some hamburger patties or hot dogs to throw on the grill. Take those to the kitchen when you arrive Sunday morning.

·       Each family should bring a side dish, such as chips, salads, or dessert.  Remember, if it needs to stay hot or cold bring it in an ice chest.  There will not be extra space in the refrigerators with all of the meat.  Take these items to Phillips’ Hall where tables will be set up and labeled. 

·       Bring your favorite drinks. Iced Tea, Water, cups and ice will be provided.

·       Bring your lawn chairs.  We will have tables set up on the east side of Café’ Mosaic and on the patio directly outside, but softball is better to watch from a lawn chair.

·       Suzie Haltom is organizing a softball game.  Bring your gloves and bats.  Also, it will be a great day to play lawn  games such as horseshoes and Frisbee. Bring those, too.

·       Bad weather won’t stop us.  If it rains, we will still eat and play games in Phillips’ Hall.

·       Check with your small group to see if you are doing a specific task for the day such as set up, clean up, or bringing food items such as tartar sauce or ketchup.  If you are not signed up to volunteer, do you want to?  Contact Janet Collins at the church office.  We do still have a couple of needs.
