Shawn Clark volunteered in demolishing the old church offices to make space for new classrooms
Thanks to Bruce Judd, Bob Schweikhard, Gene Rogers, and Shawn Clark who have been demolishing the inside walls of the old church office to make space for new classrooms for our church and community.
Our church staff moved to the offices on the far west side of the facility. The entrance is right by the parking lot, the first entrance on the west side with the glass window. We’ll put signage up soon. Come and see us anytime 9am-5pm Monday through Friday or give us a call to find out when you can come by to see us and the offices.
The space where our offices were in hallway 2 will become a nice big classroom that can be divided into 2 classrooms and be available for church use and rental space for the community.
Pancake Pandemonium Update
Thanks to all who came out to join us for Pancake Pandemonium on Sunday! I really have just been blown away by the overwhelmingly positive response over Cafe Mosaic.
We raised about $1,400 from the pancake breakfast & about $1,300 from Ken’s beautiful wood-turning pieces! Combined with some other gifts that have come in we have about $3,000 already!
Keep your ears open for some upcoming events at Cafe Mosaic, and your eyes open for some changes to the Mall thanks to your generosity.

Pancake Pandemonium and Ministry Mosaic have been rescheduled for Sunday, February 7th.
The fun will begin at 8:30am in Phillips Hall on Sunday, February 7th when we’ll have pancakes. Just showing up and buying a plate of pancakes will help raise money for the new Cafe Mosaic coffee shop we have planned and will tell you more about Sunday!
Ministry Mosaic is a time of celebration and information sharing at Garnett Church of Christ where various ministry efforts are highlighted and stories are shared, all in an effort to define not only who we are in the body of Christ, but where we feel God is leading us as we forge ahead into 2010.
Schedule 8:30am – 9:45am – Pancake Pandemonium in Phillips Hall (Fundraiser for the start-up capital for Café Mosaic).
10 am – 11:30am – Praise and Worship Ministry Mosaic: Spotlight on the past, present and future ministry efforts of Garnett.
11:30am – 1 pm – Ministry Tables & Conversation in the Mall and Café Mosaic space.
(This will be a time of deeper conversations with the leaders and volunteers representing many of the diverse ministries at Garnett.)

Ministry Mosaic Ministry Spotlight at Garnett, Sunday, January 31.
Ministry leaders will present information about the ministry they lead to inform the body of all that is happening at Garnett to glorify God. This will be a day not only of information, but celebration in who we are, where we’ve been and where we’re going.
This is an important year of rebuilding for Garnett. A big part of rebuilding is returning needed structure to ministries. A big day is planned for Garnett January 31, 2010. All our time together–from the class period to worship to fellowship time after worship–will be focused on featuring and equipping for ministries.
What to expect in 2010

This Sunday, January 3 you can expect to come into a loving and relaxed environment where you can hear the gospel preached, worship, pray, commune at the Lord’s Table with us. We have open communion, so you are welcome to come and share the bread and wine together without any questions asked. Jesus invites us all to his table.
You can come as you are, but God won’t let any of us stay just the way we are. He wants us to be transformed into his image.
So we’ll start the new year talking about the difference between New Year’s Resolutions and calling on God to change us from the inside out.
We try to meet every guest but not to pressure you excessively. Sure, we’re anxious to share the good things God does among us and to share the good news of Jesus with everyone who walks in our door, but we understand you come with your own unique story and place in life, and we want to meet you there and call you into the story of God as we have all been called there.
Happy New Year and we look forward to meeting you soon.

Below Greg Taylor has named three big events that made an impact on him in 2009, an eventful year. Would you share some of the events that impacted your life? Share something that happened in our church family or life that was meaningful to you in 2009.

From Greg Taylor
I’ll tell you three things that impacted our church in a big way in 2009.
1. Wade and Heather Hodges moving into a mission in Austin, now called “Fulcrum Community.” The Hodges have long wanted to plant a church, and Garnett Church has contributed significantly to their launch in the Spring, and individuals at Garnett and around the nation continue to support their work. Check out their web site here.
2. Definitely one of the biggest impacts on my life this year was stepping into the role of lead minister, preaching and leading staff and working directly with shepherds. What a great group of shepherds and their wives and staff. I could not be more happy with the working relationship we have together, and I am very excited about what a fresh new 2010 will bring. Great things are in store. I’ve been enjoying preaching about Jesus and the Holy Spirit in 2009. God is awesome and has been faithful to us, and I sense there is evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in people’s lives, because people’s lives are changing, baptisms are happening regularly as people are making public statements of their dedication and allegiance to Christ over every other allegiance. Praise God!
3. Garnett 40th Reunion. Wow, Lynn Wiltshire received a call and a dream from the Lord to coordinate and host a 40th Reunion and Homecoming for Garnett. This was a time not only of reunion but also of reconciliation and has led to revival and now rebuilding! God is rebuilding lives, we’re rebuilding our church staff, with the coming of Jenny Moses as our first full-time children’s minister in five years. We have also brought on two interns for urban ministry, Ben and Beth West, and we are thrilled to have these and all the other wonderful staff doing great work among a great body of believers.
What are your picks for great moments of 2009? We’ll pick from these to present in the next few weeks online and in our worship. Include photos if you have them. Comment below or email to garnettinfo@gmail.com.
Back to Life

Garnett is hosting a “Back to Life” weekend, December 12-13 with special guest Zach Smith from Dry Bones Denver.
Would you like to take a “Turf Tour” with us? This is a walking and bus tour around East Tulsa to see the places of darkness and call God’s light into those dark places. We’ll start at our church facility and see squats for homeless people in the area, discover more about the diversity in East Tulsa, and become more aware of the problems of drug and alcohol abuse with a visit to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.
Sunday Zach Smith will be with us and you can expect to hear him speak in our Sunday worship at 10 am Sunday, December 13. We’ll also have students and adults speak who have visited Dry Bones Denver.

Friendspeak is FEW. Friendship + English + Word.
People in the United States today need English conversation skills. Friendspeak uses the Gospel of Luke and other Bible books to practice English conversation between workers and readers who come in for weekly meetings one on one.
Mark Woodward from Friendspeak spent the weekend with us at Garnett, equipping us in a seminar for workers in an exciting new ministry for our church.
At Garnett we plan to launch Friendspeak early in 2010 by promoting the program with existing networks at Garnett and the Green Country Event Center, such as the Hmong American Association and Union School District GED program.

Melissa Gilbert visited the Habitat house Garnett and several other churches are helping to build.
The Tulsa World story is about the house and the family building next door. The house in the background behind Gilbert is the “Apostles Build” that Garnett is participating in. Don’t forget to head out there any Saturday morning to help.

What to expect this Sunday

This Sunday, November 8, 2009 you can expect to hear more about the Holy Spirit in a continuing series by Greg Taylor. You can also expect worship in an upbeat time of praise. You will be offered the Lord’s Supper freely without questions of membership.
Whoever you are, wherever you’ve been, whatever you’ve done, God loves you and wants you to confess sins that stand in the way of a relationship with him. He loves you even though you’ve sinned, and Christ died for us so that we can be forgiven, made clean and prepared for the indwelling of God’s very own Spirit. This is a great mystery but you will hear more about this Sunday and along our journey together at Garnett.
You can also expect to have a staffed nursery for infants and toddlers and classes for all ages at 9 am. Come to our coffee bar for more information. We look forward to meeting you.
