Really great things are happening in Cafe Mosaic right now! In addition to using the space to highlight some really talented local people, we are also starting to connect more with our greater community.

Here are some highlights:

On Friday May 28th we hosted the first “One Night Only” event. 5 local artists displayed their artwork & the talented Jared & Lauren Hard duo entertained us. Ben West also spent some time interviewing each of the artists & produced a short documentary on each one. We hope to post those up here soon.

On June 8th we had a concert featuring Cass Harris (from Northwest Arkansas) & Sara Swenson (from Kansas City). They are both really talented singer/songwriters & we were honored to have them here!

On June 22nd Garnett’s own Carl Lolar & his 5 piece jass/rock/soul band The RainMen came & played a concert. They were so much fun! If you missed them that night, you can catch them at Elwoods @ 19th & Riverside on July 10th & 30th from 6-9pm.

SO-who else would you like to see come play at Cafe Mosaic? Whose artwork should we highlight? Whose story needs to be told here? Let us know-we want to hear from you! cafemosaictulsa@gmail.com

Cass Harris & Chris Tucker:

Thanks to all who have come by Cafe Mosaic these past few weeks. It is so encouraging to see people using this space-sitting in our (really comfy) chairs & drinking some amazingly good coffee & having life-giving conversations! Some things to note:

1. We’re extending our open hours on Wednesdays to be from 4pm-7pm. So this week-come early for the community meal & stop by the cafe!

2. Friday May 28th @ 7pm will be a local art event called “One Night Only” where we will highlight a few local artists (including some of Garnett’s very own!) & tell you a little about each of them.

3. Tuesday June 8th @ 7pm will be a concert featuring Beth Wests very dear friend, Sara Swenson. She’s a school teacher by day & a singer/songwriter by night. And she’s coming all the way from Kansas City to play a show for us! Check out her website & listen to some of her songs…then make plans to come out on the 8th & see her live!

The concept is simple. Some will disagree with it. Others will find their lives change. Give Jesus equal time for 40 days. If you watch TV for one hour, give Jesus one hour of Bible reading, prayer, or service. The challenge is for everyone at Garnett Church and our friends who want to join us. I’ve put a copy of the Bible in my car and when waiting on my children at practice, I can read from one of the 4 Gospels. This morning we began asking two epic questions from the Gospel of Mark: Who is this man Jesus? and How do we follow him?

Consider joining us for 40 days of giving Jesus equal time. If you FB, watch TV, listen to Talk Radio, watch movies . . . assess how much time you do those things and cut it in half and give Jesus half that time.

God brings us an amazing variety of people seeking God, and our job is to give them good directions by the power of the Holy Spirit, the Word of Christ, and the love of the Father God.

A man from OKC came to Tulsa today for a visit to his parents’ graveside. He called the church asking if we could baptize him. He knows and loves Christ but just needed someone to help him obey God in baptism. I baptized the traveler and told him the Holy Spirit will give him the next steps. I didn’t say a lot and didn’t ask him a lot of questions, because he didn’t want or need me to. He is in his 50s and there’s a lot of water under the bridge that he’ll need to figure out between him and God. I told him I trust the Holy Spirit more than myself to show him what’s next and he agreed. I told him “as far as the East is from the West, so far has God removed your sins” (Psalm 103:12).

P.S. We have more baptisms to come Sunday, March 28 . . . and we need some waders that don’t leak! After the baptism, when I took off the duck waders, my left sock was soaked. The church has two pairs of waders, and both pair have holes in them. Thank you to those who paid for these waders that have gotten a lot of use, but they are now worn out, so we need another one or two people to donate. Would you consider donating two pairs of duck waders? If you have a pair you don’t use, please donate them to church. If you buy them new, get medium that will fit most people. Either way, we’ll give you a letter from church for a tax deduction. Let Greg know by emailing or calling (gtaylor@garnettchurch.org or 663-3000).

Thanks to Bruce Judd, Bob Schweikhard, Gene Rogers, and Shawn Clark who have been demolishing the inside walls of the old church office to make space for new classrooms for our church and community.

Our church staff moved to the offices on the far west side of the facility. The entrance is right by the parking lot, the first entrance on the west side with the glass window. We’ll put signage up soon. Come and see us anytime 9am-5pm Monday through Friday or give us a call to find out when you can come by to see us and the offices.

The space where our offices were in hallway 2 will become a nice big classroom that can be divided into 2 classrooms and be available for church use and rental space for the community.
