July 7th @ The Gathering

Wednesday July 7th from 7-8pm in Phillips Hall.
Freedom Rodriguez will be our special guest at this month’s Gathering. Freedom spent some time in Jinja, Uganda at an orphanage & has fallen in love with the children there. To help raise awareness & share their stories he has painted over the covers of 100 discard children’s books with faces of the children he met over there.

100facesbookmark

Here’s short word from Freedom about this project:

The desire to paint 100 faces is an expression of the life changing memories I have of my visits to Africa. With this collection, I hope to raise awareness of the needs in Africa and help fund our full-time arts ministry. These faces represent the increasing burning in my heart to serve those in need.

Each painting is done in acrylic on old discarded children’s books. The series represents the millions of orphans that have been discarded or abandoned. Many have been given over to orphanages for the chance of a better life. Nevertheless, these children need to feel and know that they have a story still worth reading about. No matter what they have gone through, God still desires them to live fully and with the purpose God created them for.

We are excited to have Freedom join us & hope you’ll come hear his story, as he shares the stories of these children of Africa. Jared & Lauren Hard will also be joining us to lead us in worship.

Fish Fry, Picnic, & Potluck

We want to spread the word about the Fish Fry, Picnic, and Potluck happening this Sunday, May 16th.  Here are a few things you need to know:

·       The fishermen among us are working hard to provide us with enough fish, but we are also asking families to bring some hamburger patties or hot dogs to throw on the grill. Take those to the kitchen when you arrive Sunday morning.

·       Each family should bring a side dish, such as chips, salads, or dessert.  Remember, if it needs to stay hot or cold bring it in an ice chest.  There will not be extra space in the refrigerators with all of the meat.  Take these items to Phillips Hall where tables will be set up and labeled.

·       Bring your favorite drinks. Iced Tea, Water, cups and ice will be provided.

·       Bring your lawn chairs.  We will have tables set up on the east side of Café’ Mosaic and on the patio directly outside, but softball is better to watch from a lawn chair.

·       Suzie Haltom is organizing a softball game.  Bring your gloves and bats.  Also, it will be a great day to play lawn  games such as horseshoes and Frisbee. Bring those, too.

·       Bad weather won’t stop us.  If it rains, we will still eat and play games in Phillips’ Hall.

·       Check with your small group to see if you are doing a specific task for the day such as set up, clean up, or bringing food items such as tartar sauce or ketchup.  If you are not signed up to volunteer, do you want to?  Contact Janet Collins at the church office.  We do still have a couple of needs.

We are looking forward to this great opportunity of fun and fellowship!  Feel free to call the church office if you have questions.  The number is 663.3000.  You can leave a message even if she is out of the office or email her at jcollins@garnettchurch.orgOtherwise, see you this Sunday.

Are we still gathering for worship Sunday, March 21? Snow is continuing to come down and more predicted through night. I know everyone wants to know, so I’m sending this out to say that it doesn’t look good, but we will make final determination as early as 8 pm Saturday or as late as Sunday morning around 6 am. Watch the web site, Facebook, email, and TV news. You can give your feedback by writing to gtaylor@garnettchurch.org. Thanks, Greg Taylor

Our church is beautifully broken, each of us part of a mosaic of Christ’s followers at Garnett.

A few things to know about our church:

  • We believe that we are all called to be the hands and feet of Jesus and each of us play a part in leading others into discipleship.  Our worship is for God and to encourage one another along our journey.
  • We share communion every Sunday and you are welcome to share with us. Christ welcomes everyone to his table.
  • Faith, fun and learning are available for kids infant through 5th grade during worship. An usher or the welcome staff at the Coffee Bar can help you find the right classroom.
  • There is an area for nursing mothers near the Coffee Bar.
  • If you need assistance, please talk to an usher, Coffee Bar staff or ministry staff.

Next Steps
What are the next steps to joining the journey of faith in Christ here at Garnett? Here are three next steps for you to choose from, and they range from dipping your toes in the water to jumping in.

  • Come back next Sunday.
  • Fill out the card below and check your interests or needs.
  • Come to an event listed in this bulletin that interests you, such as a Bible class or Wednesday meal.

A Welcome Place for All
We want to glorify God in East Tulsa by being a hospitable open place for our community to gather. The Green Country Event Center is one of the ways we create a place for faith to grow in our community.
