Happy New Year from Garnett!

What will 2010 be like for you? For our church? The church shepherds and staff–what we call the “Leadership Team”–is very excited about things to come in 2010. In fact, before Christmas, we made a priorities list so when we returned from holidays we could remember well the way things stack up for January, the things we need to work on together.

We want to share this with you, so here are top five, and if you have questions, please email us and ask!

Wouldn’t it be great to have a top 5 list of our church priorities when we return from Holidays with brain fuzz?

Children’s Ministry Hall and End Zone room renovation. Let’s help Jenny. Ask her.

Budget. Leadership Team plans to present a working budget for 2010 Sunday, January 17.

Year-end report. We plan to produce a year-end report for the congregation to present Sunday, January 31 that tells stories and accounts for money spent.

Ministry Mosaic. January 31 we plan to have an all-church gathering to support and re-organize ministries at Garnett. Stay tuned for more!

Mosaic Cafe. In January, we plan to launch a working coffee cafe in the Mall area where tenants of Green Country Event Center can come and hang out and form stronger community bonds. Beth West is heading this up and you’ll hear more about this soon.

So there’s the top 5. YES, there’s tons more going on, but for the stuff that we need to hit quick and hard in January together, these are it.

One last thing: I sent a note to many of you showing an order that’s important for the church: Many modern churches start with an inherited or ostensibly biblical structure, so that practice and theology ends up serving that . . .

But we ought to do the reverse: Theology–Practice–Structure. When we start with God and his mission, we practice and live that out, then some form of structure comes, and it might surprise us and be a different structure than we expect. Teaching will be foundational to these priorities, specifically we’ll move to how Theology (continuing the Holy Spirit preaching series) moves us to practice and we’ll see how the Spirit and our practices organizes Garnett!

Grace and Peace,
